CSF makes history with new criteria

As the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Club begins the school year, a new criterion for entrance has been implemented due to the option of pass-fail grades last semester.
The CSF Club allows students to give back to their school community and be recognized for their scholastic achievements. Upon completion of 4 semesters of CSF, students are able to gain several benefits as life members. After each semester–starting sophomore year, in order to attain CSF Membership, students must qualify based on grades earned the previous semester.
“I’m applying to CSF this year because I want to be a part of something I haven’t been before,” said junior Samuel Baclig. “I think now’s a great time to try something new.”
Previously, the grading scale did not include an option for pass-fail grades as it was introduced for the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Adjustments to the application have been made to accommodate for students who have selected to have pass-fail grades, letter grades, or a mix of both.
“As class representatives, we’re here to help guide as many people to get in,” said co-senior representative Iran Guerra. “Especially this year since the rules have changed and it should be easier for people to get in.”
New parts of the qualifications include: a “Pass” will be considered as an A and will allow students to gain the same amount of points as someone who has a letter grade of an A and participating in fundraisers will not equate to volunteer hours.
“With the current pandemic going on it is hard to transfer everything that we usually do in-person to online, so changes had to be made to accommodate everyone,” said president Ivy Xu. “There was a slight delay in releasing applications but we hope to focus on allowing everyone a chance to participate in CSF. We hope to have more students involved.”
The CSF application opened on September 29, 2020 and can be accessed through https://linktr.ee/SchurrHighCSF. The application will close on October 9, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. and CSF will not be accepting any late applications.
