What was once a simple cookie make up of two chocolate halves and a sweet creme filling has now become an icon, with a range of flavors and wafer choices.

Oreos have satisfied the sweet tooth of children and adults for about 103 years since their debut on March 6, 1912.

In recent years, makers of the original Oreo have decided to expand the variety of flavors of filling.

Candy apple, candy corn, fruit punch, gingerbread, green tea, peppermint, watermelon and many more fillings have been made “Oreo form.” S’mores and red velvet are the two newest flavors that have become available.

In total, more than 40 flavors of Oreos have been made worldwide. If all of the Oreos manufactured were stacked, they could reach the moon and back more than five times, according to news.feed.com.

In addition to Oreos available in a variety of flavors, the National Biscuit Company, makers of the cookies, decided to expand on their ideas.

The result is Oreo thins, the newest product which replaces the usually thick chocolate wafers with thin ones. They are available in three flavors: classic, mint and golden.

Over a hundred years later since the original Oreo was made, 450 billion Oreo cookies have been sold worldwide, according to ibtimes.com.

Standing as a nostalgic snack-time staple, this sandwich cookie continues to have broad range of flavors that offer something for everyone.
