Diving into their season, girls water polo teams will play against El Toro Chargers, Dec. 18, home.

Against the Edison Eagles, varsity and frosh/soph teams lost with scores of 2-19 and 1-21, respectively, while JV won with a score of 14-5, Dec. 1, away. Girls water polo players responded to the losses by working hard to keep up and improve every single day.

“Even though we’re club players, I want to improve on coming in sync in the water. Personally, I would like to improve on communicating better with the team and become more involved with one another,” said Cynthia Rosa-Carcamo, senior.

Girls water polo teams played the season opener against San Clemente on Nov. 27, with varsity winning 13-11, away. However, JV Spartans and frosh/soph lost 10-12 and 14-8, respectively. Despite starting off with a loss, JV Spartans are hopeful for the season.

“I think we’ve been struggling a lot because it’s the beginning of the season and we have been missing people but we are definitely getting better,” said Mariana Reyes, junior. “Yet, practicing every day with your friends makes it all worth it.”

Even though it is the beginning of the season, Coach David Argumosa is still pushing a rigorous training schedule.

Coming up with the close victory over San Clemente was “a huge win,” said Argumosa, who enjoys the psychological aspect of winning over schools that have reputable, historically successful programs. “Beating those beach schools is huge,” he said.

The varsity team hopes to win their fourth consecutive league championship, moreover, the JV and frosh/soph teams are looking for league titles as well.
