Cross country members will conclude their season at League Finals Oct. 31 at Legg Lake.

Today at 4 p.m., they will be competing at the Apache Invitational at Arcadia Park, their last invitational.

At the harriers’ first league meet, JV girls cross country took second place, varsity girls earned fifth place and the rest of the teams all took first place.

“For the most part, I’m relatively satisfied with how this season played out; I have seen improvement in my times consistently. I’m ecstatic to feel like I am contributing more and feel confident for both JV and varsity boys taking league,” said George Jimenez, varsity senior.

The runners competed at their second league meet Oct. 17. Varsity girls and boys took second place and the rest of the teams earned first.

“The varsity girls have a large chance to finish in second place and qualify for CIF at league finals if they work hard these upcoming weeks. As a team we are striving to take home six individual league championships next Wednesday. Coach Q and I are very confident that they can accomplish this,” said Coach Amber Ackerman.

All divisions, except varsity girls, who can receive first place on Oct.31, have the ability to continue the streak as Almont League Champions.

“This season has been exciting, although the competition has been tough this year, and all teams are determined to beat us. I am proud of the way our team has responded and surpassed our expectations as coaches. I anticipate league finals to be a tight finish, but I know our team will pull through,” said Ackerman.

The top three varsity teams that come in at League Finals are guaranteed a spot to compete at CIF.  Top seven of  each varsity race become Almont League First Team and the remaining seven are Almont League Second Team. The first seven that come in other divisions receive medals.
