Highly anticipated and long-awaited, “Incredibles 2,” which is a sequel to Pixar’s 2004 film, “The Incredibles” is scheduled to open June 15.
The film is once again written and directed by Brad Bird. As shown in the latest trailer, the new film takes the familiar superhero family in an unexpected direction, with special emphasis on Jack-Jack, the baby of the family, who possesses many undiscovered and “incredible” powers.
The trailer opens with an unidentified tycoon set to bring the banished Parr family back into the mainstream. The mom, Elastigirl, voiced by Holly Hunter, is chosen to represent his crime-fighting company and goes off to a new career path. Her new job status forces Mr. Incredible, Bob Parr, voiced by Craig T. Nelson, to become a stay-home dad who takes care of the kids: Violet, who can turn invisible and generate force fields; Dash, an all-around speedster; and Jack-Jack, whose plethora of powers include being able to become a fire monster, turn into steel and shoot lasers from his eyes. Mr Incredible, who is not prepared for his new position, manages them with humorous and less-than-positive results.
Elastigirl seems to be conflicted about the new job that forces her to uphold the law by breaking it, as well as leaving her husband at home with the kids. Mr. Incredible does not have an easy time with this task as the kids become out of control and too much to handle. From the trailer, the plot seems to show a new global crisis created by the arrival of the “Underminer,” the powerful super villain (introduced at the end of the first movie) whose main goal is to kill the Incredibles family and to destroy everything that fosters peace and joy. In order to save their city from demise, the Incredibles must fight another group of supervillains led by the Underminer.
Viewers will see the return of Frozone, Lucius Best, voiced by Samuel Jackson, a fellow superhero who has the ability to create and shoot ice from his hands. He is a loyal family friend who is ready to join the Parr family in battle. There are also glimpses of Edna Mode, the iconic designer of superhero outfits, who is set to design Jack-Jack’s outfit. In the beginning, it seems that Elastigirl will be the only one fighting crime; however, the whole family, along with Frozone, eventually starts working together to stop the Underminer’s crimes.
Even though it has been 14 years since the first film, the new installment begins right after the events of the first movie. Expectations are high for the PG-13-rated Pixar sequel that fans have been eagerly waiting.
