The Varsity cagers ended their season in the first round of CIF with a 62-54 loss, an overall record of 5-1 and league record of 7-3.
The Varsity cagers ended their CIF chances against the West Warriors, Feb. 14.
“We did a decent job stopping their best player. I feel we still could’ve nudged a win, but a few minor mistakes in the last 2 minutes turned into their buckets, and that’s what sealed our season,” said Kevin Sandoval, senior.
The team had beaten the Mark Keppel Aztecs, 64-53, at the homecoming game Feb. 9; the JV team was also victorious, 60-55.
“Although we fell a little short of our overall goal, I still felt proud of our season. The players worked hard and committed themselves to the program.” said Coach Gino Torres.“To the graduating seniors, I wish them the best in their future endeavors. For the returners, let’s get in the gym and work.”
Finishing strong, the JV team ended their season with an overall record of 5-7 and a league record of 2-1.
“I am really excited for next years basketball team. I was already on varsity and I’m heading into my senior year, I feel like we have a very strong squad since we have a lot of returners. We are going to learn from our mistakes last year and avoid them this upcoming season.”
The JV cagers were triumphant against the Alhambra Moors, winning 60-55, on Jan. 26 and against the Mark Keppel Aztecs at the Alhambra conference tournament, 65-55 on Jan. 23.
“As long as we develop as a team, we can accomplish many things. I’m very excited to make it to varsity, it’s gonna be a lot of work to put in but in the end it’ll pay off,” said Adrian Diosdallos, sophomore.
