After their game against the Mark Keppel Aztecs at homecoming, the varsity cagerettes concluded their season with a 4-6 league record and an 11-15 overall record.

The cagerettes lost, 67-41, at the Feb. 9 game against the Aztecs. They were also defeated, 56-4, by the San Gabriel Matadors Feb. 6.

“I played every game as if it were my last and pushed to do my best,” said Reneja Verduzco senior. “This season I was very proud of myself because I scored 28 points in a game and that highlighted the rest of the season for me.”

Against the Montebello Oilers Feb. 2, the cagerettes took a 44-42 victory. They also defeated the Alhambra Moors, 45-41, Jan. 26.

“Next season, I’m going to work on learning from the mistakes I made this year. My main trouble was learning how to be more confident with my ball handling,” said Heaven Wolf, first-year varsity sophomore.

The JV cagerettes ended their season with a 3-7 league record and an overall record of 7-16. They lost to the San Gabriel Matadors, 36-37, Feb. 6.

“This season wasn’t what I hoped it would be. The girls definitely put in a lot of work and improved a ton,” said JV Coach Kari Kayoda. “I’m proud of how they closed out the season with some intensity, fun and energy.”

The team won in a Feb. 2 game against the Montebello Oilers, 33-30.

“I made good decisions during plays,” said JV sophomore Alondra Fuerte Guzman “Also as a team we are flexible and ready to learn new things.”
