Cagerettes take experience to league

After their first home game of the preseason, the varsity lady cagers look to the four-day long Santiago tournament beginning Dec. 19.
The Spartans competed against the Cal High Condors yesterday. Frosh/soph TBA with TBA, however varsity and JV scores were unavailable at press time.
Participating in the Bonita tournament Dec. 2-9, JV concluded with a draw of 2-2. The Cagerettes defeated the Fairmont Huskies, 61-34, and Upland Highlanders, 44-20, but fell short against the Roosevelt Rough Riders, 57-18, and the Chino Hills Huskies, 49-27.
“I’ve been focusing on running a lot to push myself and gaining stamina. We also push each other so that we can stay strong, but also have fun,” said JV senior Margarita Grajada.
At the La Canada tournament, frosh/soph gained experience and emerged victorious against the Canyon Comanches and Burbank Bulldogs with scores of 49-15 and 51-12, respectively. However, they were defeated in overtime by the Glendale Nitros at the championships, 40-40 (54-48).
“I’ve seen more desire and unity among the girls as the season progresses,” said first year Spartan frosh/soph coach, Stanford Tucker.
The Cagerettes will face Alhambra Moors opponents at their first league game, Jan. 9.
