For the first time in school history, the varsity spikers finished preseason and league with an undefeated record of 16-0 as they advance to their first CIF match against Whitney Wildcats at home Oct. 31.

“I cannot be any more proud of this team, because all the girls work hard on and off the court (weight room included). The result of their hard work was a perfect season,” said Varsity Coach Jorge Ortiz.

The Almont League champions defeated the Mark Keppel Aztecs, 3-1, with scores of 25-16, 25-14, 30-28 and 25-14, Oct. 24.

The Bell Gardens Lancers fell short to the Spartans Oct. 19, 3-2, with set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 and 15-13.

“Together as a team, we finished our season undefeated; we worked very hard for our league title,” said junior Shireen Tsang. “Now that we are moving on to CIF, we need to continue working together as a team and not allow anyone to bring us down.”

The team emerged victorious against the Alhambra Moors Oct. 17, 3-0, with scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-8.

The spikers triumphed over the San Gabriel Matadors, 3-2, with score of 25-21, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23 and 15-8, Oct. 12.

“Another thing that brings me joy is how tight these girls are; they have developed a strong bond with one another,” said Ortiz. “My main focus is to have these girls compete and play hard every match in CIF because they have the potential to go far, and I am excited to see where they finish.”
