Striving to keep their undefeated 3-0 league record, the varsity gridders will play at home against the Bell Gardens Lancers tonight at 7.

“Bell Gardens runs a very disciplined offense, so we have to be disciplined to make sure that they don’t do anything that will hurt us defensively,” said Head Coach David Ramos. “I’m not worried about Bell Gardens, I’m worried about us; as long as we play our game, I’m happy with the results.”

The Spartans defeated the San Gabriel Matadors, 49-6, Oct. 20. Although the gridders place pressure on themselves to perform, they have enjoyed their undefeated season.

“It feels great [to be undefeated]. We have to keep the momentum going and encourage each other to strive to be great. I don’t fear failing, but if I fail, I’ll know I tried my best,” said Jeremiah Hatfield, junior free safety.

In an Oct. 13 game against their cross-town rival the Montebello Oilers, the gridders won, 38-35.

“We knew going into this season we would have the opportunity to win three championships. We already knew what was expected, now we just have to perform. It’s all about preparation; if we prepare the right way, we will execute the right ways when it comes to Fridays,” said Aaron Silva, senior tight end.

In an Oct. 6 away game against the Mark Keppel Aztecs, the gridders were victorious, 48-8. Spartans also beat the Whittier Cardinals at home, 36-35, Sept. 22.

“On the field, we keep a clear mind and don’t listen to what other people say. We know how much work we put in, and what we can do. Our mindset is to get to state. We have the talent, and we’re going to get there by being focused, having that winning mentality and working hard,” said Aaron Rosales, senior line backer.
