Undefeated varsity spikers power into league games

With an undefeated 6-0 preseason record, the varsity spikers hope to be victorious during league as they face San Gabriel Sept. 26 at home.
The Spartans defeated the Montebello Oilers yesterday with set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-11, 3-0. They won, 3-1, against the Pioneer Titans Sept. 19, with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 25-9 and 25-19.
“We have built a really strong relationship between teammates and we enjoy playing together,” said Allyssa Rodarte, junior. “I expect us to win another league title.”

Continuing to remain undefeated, the varsity spikers won, 3-1, against the Temple City Rams. They were also victorious against the Paramount Pirates, 3-1, Sept. 8 at home with set scores of 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-15. They defeated the El Rancho Dons Sept.7, 3-0, and they also won against the Santa Fe Chiefs on Aug. 29, 3-1.
“After losing key players from last year’s team, this year’s team has far exceeded my expectations. Everyone knows what their role is and they’re able to display it on the court,” said Jorge Ortiz, varsity coach.
With a preseason record of 5-1, the JV spikers defeated the Oilers 2-0 with set scores of 25-12 and 25-22. The Spartans look to maintain triumphant during league as they play against the Matadors Sept. 26.
They defeated the Titans Sept. 19, 2-0, with set scores of 25-6 and 25-9. They also won, 2-0, against the Rams with set scores of 25-23 and 25-17.
“I feel really confident; I know we can do it. We just have to communicate and get our serves over, but we have a good chance at winning league,” said Melissa Hernandez, sophomore.
They were victorious against the Pirates, 2-0, at home Sept. 8. However, the team fell short Sept. 7 against the Dons, 2-0, with set scores of 25-22 and 25-22. They defeated the Chiefs Aug. 29, 2-1.
With a preseason record of 2-4, the frosh/soph spikers hope to improve during league as they play against the Matadors.
The team won Sept. 19 against the Titans, 2-0, with set scores of 25-18 and 25-20 but lost to the Chiefs, 2-1, Aug. 29.
