Valedictorian Evelyn Wong and co- salutatorians Madeline Klepzig and Jordan Leong will represent their class at the commencement ceremony to be held June 13 at 6 p.m. in the Weingart Stadium at East Los Angeles College (ELAC).
Announcement of the three recipients was made at the California Scholarship Federation banquet, which took place May 25 at the University of the West.
In her speech, Wong will encourage graduates to pursue their goals. “When we trust the educational process and follow our dreams, great things can happen,” said Wong.
Co-salutatorians Klepzig and Leong will be giving their speech on the theme of friendship.
Brittany Phan, president of United Study Body (USB), will welcome attendees to the graduation and give the history of the class of 2017.
“I’m writing my speech, currently, and it’s a culmination of the last four years and the impacts within those four years,” said  Phan. “I hope my peers can take the lesson I’m trying to express to wherever they are going after high school.”
Choir and band members will perform at the ceremony. Band will play the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” for the graduates to walk in. Choir members will sing the “Star Spangled Banner,” as well as and the alma mater.
Graduates should arrive at the stadium at 4:30 p.m. and enter through the tunnel on Floral Drive.
Guests may begin arriving at 4:45 p.m. through the stadium’s main entrances. No tickets are required to enter the stadium, and parking is available at no charge.
Spectators are asked not to bring any items that would obstruct others’ view  and to keep the aisles clear. Outside beverages and coolers are not allowed inside the stadium.
Diplomas will be available for seniors to pick up June 14 from 7:45 to 11:30 a.m. in front of Schurr’s administration building.
