Girls H20 polo look toward CIF

Girls varsity water polo remain in first place in league and will compete for the league title against the Montebello Oilers, Feb. 8, at home.

The Spartans played in the Los Altos Tournament Feb. 3.

Varsity beat the Rosary Royals, Feb. 1, 4-2; the Mark Keppel Aztecs, Jan. 31, 16-5 and the Woodrow Wilson Mules, Jan. 25, 6-4. They also swept the Bell Gardens Lancers, Jan. 24, 14-1, and the Alhambra Moors, Jan. 17, 16-2.

The Spartans also defeated the St. Lucy’s Regents, Jan. 6, 13-1, and the California Condors, Jan. 4, 17-3. However, they came up short against the Riverside Poly Bears, 10-6, Dec. 27. 

The varsity team beat the Redondo Union Sea Hawks, Dec. 23, 11-8, and the Beckman Patriots, Dec. 22, 12-2 .They also beat the Dana Hills Dolphins, 6-3, Dec. 17.

“This season has been tough at times, but I think we are working really well as a team and I hope we can make it far in CIF this year, compared to other years before. Also, for next week, I think we can easily beat the Montebello Oilers and win league,” said junior Maria Flores.

The JV team has an 8-1 record after beating the Rosary Royals, 16-5, Feb. 1; the Mark Keppel Aztecs, 8-3, Jan. 31, and the Bell Gardens Lancers, 10-2, Jan. 24. They also beat the St. Lucy’s Regents, 9-7, Jan. 6, and the California Condors, 11-1, Jan. 4.

“This season has been accomplished through a lot of hard work, so it definitely hasn’t been easy, but I know that as a team we are really prepared to dominate the remainder of our season and win the league title once more,” said junior Angelica Cruz. “By communicating more and implementing plays, we should be able to accomplish this.”
