Montebello Mix to celebrate renovation with art contest

Students can submit art for an opportunity to show their talents in the Oct. 5 display hosted by the Montebello Mix, formerly known as the Mart of Montebello.
The display is sponsored by Combined Properties to celebrate the newly remodeled Center.
The renovated center’s focus on art led them to create an art exhibition, which will feature paintings or collages created by students from select schools around the Montebello Unified School District.

“This art display will give students the opportunity to show off their work,” said Michelle Nakano, art teacher. “The students don’t always get to share their talent because of the workload that’s given. It should be a good experience for them.”
Artwork must revolve around the theme “The City of Montebello is Growing and Blossoming Like a Flower.” The art should also portray a sense of positivity and optimism with an encouraging message. All art will be evaluated based on the theme, craftsmanship, utilization of color and ability to fill the entire space of a 12-by-18-inch wide paper. Entries must use at least three colors.
“I like drawing and painting. I think this contest would be a great way for me to show my art talent,” said Alyssa Chavez, sophomore.
Art is to be submitted to the school art teacher for a chance to win a spot to be on public display on the storefront areas of Marshalls, Ross, Vons and Rite-Aid at the Montebello Mix. Artwork that is selected will be printed on a 4-by-6-feet wide aluminum panel. Original artwork will be returned to all artists.
Interested artists may visit Rooms S-2 or C-311 for an art display submission application or to turn in artwork.
