Representing the class of 2016, Valedictorian Gabriel Brossy de Dios and Salutatorian Argenis Valdovinos will lead the graduates into the 6:30 p.m. ceremony June 15 at East Los Angeles College’s (ELAC) Weingart Stadium.

Brossy de Dios and Valdovinos were recognized during the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) Banquet, held at University of the West, May 26.

Brossy De Dios, who will be attending Pennsylvania’s Swarthmore College in the fall, is the second vice president of CSF, project manager of the National Honor Society (NHS) and founder and president of Students for the Environment. He also qualified as a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar as a junior.

“Graduating represents a big milestone for me, since it ushers in a new stage of my life and being a valedictorian is an honor, but I would say that the part of it that is most important for me is getting the opportunity to speak at graduation,” said Brossy De Dios.

Valdovinos, who will attend the University of California, Berkeley, in the fall, is treasurer of NHS, founder and president of the Salvation Army Club. She also attended Girls State as Schurr’s representative last summer.

“I feel accomplished because I know my hard work has paid off. It has been a great journey at Schurr. All of our experiences will continue to shape us and our futures,” said Valdovinos. “I am so proud of our class because we finally made it.”

Graduation practice will take place the mornings of June 14 and 15. Tickets will not be needed for the ceremony, which is open to all family and friends.

Cesar Rios, USB President, will welcome the graduating class and present their class history.

Music will be provided by the Choir and Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Angela Chong and The Spartan Legion, directed by Antonio Castro.

Guests are asked to refrain from bringing balloons and umbrellas, as they can obstruct the views of others during the ceremony.
