Renaissance will host the 15th annual Mr. Schurr High competition March 11 in the auditorium at 7 p.m.

The contest is a fundraiser for Renaissance that is open to all grades. This year participants include 26 seniors and one sophomore.

Renaissance Adviser Kenneth Seto gave each contestant eight tickets to sell for $10. After the first eight are sold, the price will rise to $12. Tickets for rows seven and closer will be $15 and sold in Room C-206.

“By joining Mr. Schurr High, I hope that I would meet new people and interact more. I think that I will be happy with at least a tenth place, but my main goal is to just have fun that night. ” said senior Allen Castano.

Seto has also been helping the contestants practice for their performances during lunch in the auditorium.

“I wanted to join Mr. Schurr High because I think it would be a fun experience and I love to get the crowd pumped up and excited,” said senior George-X Tafoya. “To me, Mr. Schurr High has been a fun experience so far, because I have learned how to work well with others and to get out of my comfort zone.”

The Mr. Schurr High Pageant is annually the most successful Renaissance fundraiser, and it has sold out the past few years.

“I have gone to Mr. Schurr High twice already. I think it is the funniest and best event of the year because it includes many funny guys who know how to bring the crowd together. Since I enjoy watching it so much, I am one of the girls helping to organize and set up the event this year.” said senior Rickie Gutierrez.

The winner of Mr. Schurr High will be given two tickets to the Sadie Hawkins dance, a free tux rental for prom, $100, a crown, a poster and the title.

“Mr. Schurr High has helped me build better bonds with all the incredible guys in the show. I love the atmosphere and energy,” said senior Jonathan Ruiz. “I expect this to be one of the greatest Mr. Schurr High shows put on because I think each and every one of the people competing are talented. I expect it to be one of the greatest memories of my life as well.”Screen Shot 2016-02-26 at 9.42.31 PM
