Select Vocal Ensemble members will deliver singing grams today as a program fundraiser for their upcoming festival in March.
Their Winter Concert held Dec.11, was conducted by Angela Chong with piano accompaniment by Randy Guiaya. Linda White played flute, bells and chimes. It included songs in different languages including English, Japanese, Spanish, Swahili and Russian.
The event featured Vocal Ensembles’ performances of “Avanza Navidad,” “Deck the Nutcracker Hall,” “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” and Members Jeannette Ynda and Nicolle Camarena performed solos.
“I feel like we did well,” said Jordan Jimenez, Vocal Ensemble member. “We worked hard on this performance, and it paid off. I feel we can get even better as the year goes on and do great in competitions.”
Beginning Choir sang a variety of songs including “Heriza Krismas,” “El Rorro” and “Twelve Days after Christmas.” Members Denise Chavez, Eriany Walldez and Kia Harlan all performed solos.
“We were all nervous at first,” said Jaqueline Yatan, Beginning Choir member. “But I think we did a good job in our performance. I think as the year continues, we will get better.”
Vocal Ensemble member Andie Lopez performed “Back to December” with her sister, alumna Celeste Martinez. Beginning Choir member Jessica Karpovich sang “Silent Night” in both Russian and Japanese.
The concert concluded with Beginning Choir and Vocal Ensemble combining to perform “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” in which the audience was encouraged to join in and sing.
All proceeds from the Winter Concert will go toward entry fees and transportation to future performances, competitions and festivals.
