Aiming to maintain their undefeated preseason record of 4-0, the varsity lady strikers will play the Burroughs Indians Dec. 22.
The team played the Temple City Rams, yesterday, but scores were unavailable at press time.
“It is an honor to be on the varsity squad because I get to represent my school,” said freshman Isabella Veljacic. “I am excited that I scored because it gives me confidence for our next game against the Rams.”
The varsity strikers beat the South Pasadena Tigers, 2-0, Dec.15, while the JV strikers lost, 4-0.
“I was injured from a MCL sprain and I didn’t want to let my team down by playing my first game of the preseason in a different position (goalie) than normal (defense) especially since the last time I played goalie was when I was 7,” said junior Ashley Lopez, varsity player. “I felt a little nervous and that I wouldn’t want to disappoint the team, but being in goal helped me appreciate the position because it is a lot of work.”
Both the varsity and JV teams emerged victorious in the game against the Northview Vikings Dec. 8. The varsity conquered the Vikings, 10-1, and JV beat them, 3-0.
Both varsity and JV strikers showed their skills in the Dec. 2 away game against the Mountain View Vikings, winning their games, 4-0 and 1-0.
“I think we have improved in our communication and our team chemistry. As a captain, I feel that it is my duty to show leadership, to push everyone to work their best and to make myself available to any of the players whenever they need me,” said senior Diana Moreno, varsity captain.
In their first preseason game, the lady strikers faced the San Marino Titans Nov. 30 at home; varsity tied, 1-1, and JV lost, 1-0.
