Hoping to get their second preseason win, the JV gridders will face the Whittier High Cardinals Oct.1 away after bye week.

The Spartans played the Diamond Ranch Panthers Sept.17, away and lost 34-14. they also suffered a loss to the San Marino Titans, Sept. 10, 23-0. They beat the El Monte Lions Sept. 4, 19-12.

“We came back this week after playing San Marino and gave it our all to beat the Panthers, but things did not go so well because unfortunately our quarterback, Eddie Herrera, got injured during the game,” said Adrian Sanchez.

Although the Spartans did not score as much as they had hoped, they do recognize that there are certain areas they need to improve on in order to win their first league game against the Montebello Oilers Oct.8.

“Hopefully during this bye week we can tighten our defensive line as well as anything else that needs to be tightened so we can give it our A-game against Whittier and then Montebello,” said junior Mathew Barajas.

The freshman gridders are hoping to improve their 1-3 preseason record in thier next game against the Cardinals at Whittier High Oct. 1. They played the Diamond Ranch Panthers Sept. 17, away and lost, 69-0.

Although they lost, 3-6. to the Titans Sept. 10, at San Marino, they beat the El Monte Lions Sept. 4, 20-6.

“Our greatest weakness was coming into this season not fully knowing our coaches but we’ll be paying closer attention to our coaches to improve our score,” said Johnny Arellanes “This season is not over yet.”
