Band and orchestra will perform at the annual Winter Concert at the Montebello High School auditorium tonight at 6 p.m.
Admission is free, and both Schurr and Montebello students will play in the concert.
Orchestra will present arrangements of “1812 Overture” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “Jupiter Theme” from The Planets by Gustav Holst, and “It Don’t Mean a Thing” by Duke Ellington and Irving Mills.
Concert band will perform a medley entitled “Santa’s Cycle,” comprised of “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Deck the Halls” and “Sleigh Ride.”
Jazz Band will offer arrangements of “My Favorite Things” by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, as well as “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano.
According to Orchestra Director Anne Rardin, this is the fifth year the school has been invited to play along with Montebello.
“Our first concert [for orchestra] happens so quickly after school starts that it’s good timing for us to have another concert. It’s really good to have our musicians from Schurr interact with the musicians from Montebello and vice versa,” said Rardin, “and they have a really nice auditorium. It gives us a chance to perform in the location we’ll be in for our festival in April.”
