Lady strikers aim towards upcoming goals for the season

Following a break after their first preseason game, the lady strikers will play against Northview on the Vikings’ field Dec.9.

Battling through a downpour Dec. 2, the team lost against the San Marino Titans 2-1. The rain decreased the amount of ball control on the field and heightened the difficulty of the match.

The Titans established an early lead, scoring two goals within the first 30 minutes of the game. The Spartans maintained a strong defensive pressure and fought back to score early in the second half. However, they could not return a second goal to tie or take the lead.

“As a first game, there were many positive things to take from how we performed together,” said junior sweeper Diana Moreno. “We mesh very well because the majority of us have been playing with each other for two years, but we need to work on opening up the field.”

Due to the field construction scheduled to begin sometime after winter break, all games will be played away. “Home” games will be held at John Anson Ford Park Turf Field at the Bell Gardens Recreation Park.

The JV strikers also lost to San Marino, 4-1, Dec. 2. They hope to continue to grow as a team and improve technique on the field.
