American Red Cross will be holding its annual blood drive on Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. in the MPR.
Students who plan to donate are required to have a permission slip, which is available at the Student Store.
To donate, donors must meet certain requirements set by the Red Cross. Due to changes in criteria, donors who have successfully donated blood in the past will not be allowed to give blood if they do not meet the current standard.
Participants must be at least 16 years old. Both male and female donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, however, the weight requirement may change depending on his/her height. Males must at least be 4’10,”, and females must be at least 5’1.” Students may check to see if they are eligible at the Student Store.
To donate blood, donors must bring their permission slips, signed by their parent or guardian, and ID to the MPR during the allotted time period. A nurse will proceed to check the participant’s height and weight, as well as ask for previous medical history, to ensure that the student is eligible to donate.
